A common weapon found throughout various battlefields is the JZ-4N Laser Pistol, often referred to as “The Enigma”. The origin behind the nickname is the fact that humanity remains unaware of who or what designed it, though it is believed that one of the more benevolent species developed it to combat the Adra given its relative effectiveness against them. Despite not knowing the exact origins of the pistol, humanity has been able to reverse engineer the weaponry to produce their own. Through this process humanity has been able to apply the intricate Inner-workings to other weaponry.
The JZ-4N works, like most other beam weapons, by exciting high-energy gas through a power cell which converts the gas into a concentrated plasma. The plasma is then channeled into a coherent energy bolt by various collimating components and is held together temporarily by magnetic forces. Though given the inherent instability of the plasma, such bolts have limited range and accuracy.
While most beam pistols struggle at medium to long ranges, the JZ-4N can excel in such circumstances given its longer and more focused barrel, making it a staple to soldiers and civilian fighters alike. Through extensive and prolonged fire, the weapon can overheat which can potentially lead to weapon failure. Upon impact the energy bolt’s kinetic force is expanded as the magnetic field collapses in an explosive manner while the plasma burns through organic and artificial materials alike. In most instances a bolt will travel through organic material with ease, and the heat of the plasma would instantly vaporize a victim’s tissue, while the heat energy dissipates throughout the body and instantly cauterizes the wound. The JZ-4N specifically deals a lower degree of damage given its smaller, more compact structure. Another feature that makes the Enigma so common is its customizability. Various attachments such as sights, scopes, extended barrels, and superchargers can be installed to enhance its capabilities.
One of the more unique changes one can make is changing the gas used to form the plasma such as hydrogen or oxygen which increase or decrease its damage. In the war against the Adra, humanity has adopted this technology with striking efficiency, and it has become quite common as a personal defense weapon. In active combat areas it is a solid backup weapon when a soldier’s primary fails them, or ammunition runs low.
One of the most infamous JZ-4N models is the “Code Killer”. Made famous by the
renowned human fighter Henry “Code” Morales in the Battle of New Phoenix, the Code Killer is a heavily modified JZ-4N. It is equipped with an overcharger which produces an even deadlier energy bolt at the cost of generating more heat per shot, allowing only two trigger pulls before needing to cooldown. The bolt the Code Killer produces can sing through armor easily, while remaining most of its power.
Assault Laser Rifle
A staple of ground warfare, the N1-61 Laser Assault Rifle is the standard issue rifle for the bulk of NTC forces. Based upon the JZ-4N Laser Pistol, the N1-61 is a beam-based weapon created from reverse engineering the JZ-4N and developing a more long-range variation. After numerous failed prototypes, the Mark III N1-61 was officially made the standard issue rifle of the NTC.
The rifle works, like most other beam weapons, by exciting high-energy gas through a power cell which converts the gas into a concentrated plasma. The plasma is then channeled into a coherent energy bolt by various collimating components and is held together temporarily by magnetic forces. Though given the inherent instability of the plasma, such bolts have limited range and accuracy. This instability is counteracted by extending the barrel and having the plasma bolt travel through more collimating parts to maintain the structure of the bolt for a longer duration after it is fired. Though much like the JZ-4N, prolonged fire can lead to overheating and thus damage the internals of the weapon.
Upon impact, the energy bolt’s kinetic force is expanded as the magnetic field collapses in an explosive manner while the plasma burns through organic and artificial materials alike. In most instances a bolt will travel through organic material with ease, and the heat of the plasma would instantly vaporize a victim’s tissue, while the heat energy dissipates throughout the body and instantly cauterizes the wound. The N1-61 specifically deals a higher degree of damage given its extended and range focused structure.
What makes the N1-61 so popular is its stopping power, customizability, and its durability. Various attachments such as sights, scopes, extended barrels, and superchargers can be installed to enhance its capabilities. One of the more unique changes one can make is changing the gas used to form the plasma, such as hydrogen or oxygen which increase or decrease its damage. Common modifications are extended heat sinks in combination with Argon Hydrogen gas supplies. The Argon Hydrogen gas works to produce the hottest, and thus the most damaging, bolt but it produces the most heat, which the extended heat sinks work to counteract heat build-up. For durability, the rifle is designed to withstand any environment from marshes to the vacuum of space.
One of the earliest interactions of the rifle is the “Fate”. Named after nuclear testing in the 21 century, the Fate was an early prototype that the engineer, Abeni Idowu, began experimenting with. What she found was that by supercharging Argon Hydrogen gas the weapon could produce a bolt capable of creating a near-nuclear grade explosive reaction with whatever it came across, though it generated massive amounts of heat and required several minutes to cooldown, that is if the weapon didn’t melt first. Higher-ups were curious and requested Idowu to continue her research in the hopes of creating a new line of beam weaponry. Currently the Fate is located within Idowu’s personal research and engineering facility after being used by a gung-ho recruit.
5T-9K Assault Rifle – Traditional Weapon
Much like the U-BIQ, the 5T-9K was a collaborative design from the pre-invasion era. Built for customization and accuracy, this firearm is perfect for guerilla warfare, allowing for in-the-moment adjusts. Weighing at roughly 3.1 kg, the weapon, at standard, is 700mm long, with a 403mm barrel. Chambered in 5.56×45mm, the rifle offers decent stopping power. What the rifle excels in is accurate, fast strikes or heavy sustained fire, which affords other units to flank and outmaneuver an enemy. The base weapon design calls for the receiver to be placed at the front of the pistol grip to increase barrel length and optimal firing range. The pistol grip itself is constructed from common metals, but plastics are another viable option to decrease weight. The standard stock is a straight grip stock, but a shoulder stock is also quite common. The standard issue magazine is a horizontal box, which carries forty rounds to allow for a longer duration of sustained fire. To release the magazine, the weapon makes use of a push mechanism. The weapon allows for automatic and three round bursts, and of course comes with a safety.
Nicknamed the “Vengeance”, the 5T-9K Assault Rifle has remained a reliable weapon against the Adra, and with continued improvements to its base design the rifle will only grow in lethality.
87-B5 Shotgun – Traditional Weapon
First model was designed with one goal in mind, to deal as much damage as possible in the shortest amount of time Unlike the 5T-9K and the U-BIQ, the 87-B5 was developed after the initial Adra invasion. The weapon weighing in at 4 kg, this double-barreled shotgun is 1087mm in length with a 825mm barrel. It makes use of 20 gauge shells and uses a unique bolt-action firing mechanism. Breaching rounds are commonly used given the frequent urban based battles.
As mentioned, the weapon was designed to inflict colossal amounts of damage in short bursts, which it certainly excels in doing. It is capable of tearing limbs off of heavily armored opponents and completely decimating shields given the sheer kinetic force the weapon outputs. Nicknamed the “Armageddon”, the 87-B5 is a favorite for close range engagements and breach-and-clear tactics.
After a series of modifications, a separate version of the 87 was made to build upon the original goal to an absurd degree. Codenamed the “Bone Crusher”, this modified shotgun is equipped with a third barrel and is capable of completely obliterating anything in its path. It earned the “Bone Crusher” moniker due to the fact that it will break several bones of the shooter should they not wear the proper armor.
Rocket Launcher – Explosive Class Weapon
Rocket Launchers are a portable, explosive weapon commonly used to combat ground vehicles, aircraft, heavily entrenched enemy positions, and heavily armored targets. This weapon can fire several types of rockets from those specifically designed to pierce through the thickest of armor to those that can spread incendiary material to engulf enemy positions in flames. Most NTC squads have at least one soldier equipped with a rocket launcher should the need arise, but they are primarily operated in small teams to target rich environments or to disable enemy vehicles.
Currently engineers are working on a prototype rocket capable of disabling multiple targets at once by piercing through the armor and dropping a small explosive payload before exiting and repeating the process, though recent trials have been less than stellar.
Grenade – Explosive Class Weapon
A staple in modern warfare, the hand grenade is an effective explosive weapon for clearing enemy positions or dishing out a high amount of damage to more armored targets.
The grenade consists of an explosive agent/charge, a detonator mechanism, an internal striker to ignite the agent, and a safety lever secured by a cotter pin. The user removes the safety pin, and can choose to hold the grenade for three seconds to reduce the odds of the enemy sending the grenade back, before throwing. As the grenade leaves the hand the safety lever is released, allowing the striker to trigger the primer that ignites a fuse, which burns down to the detonator and detonates the main charge. The primary sources of damage from grenades are from the fragments sent forth after the explosion and the shockwaves that accompany them. The fragments shred through armor and organic material, while the secondary shockwaves damage bone and disorient enemies.
Thermonuclear Fusion Grenade – Explosive Class Weapon
Based on the TDR space armaments, the Thermonuclear Fusion Grenades are a more compact handheld explosive reserved for targets with the heaviest of armors and protective measures or to clear a particularly entrenched enemy fortification.
This weapon is a design that does not require a fission “primary” explosive to ignite the fusion reaction of deuterium and tritium, two heavy isotopes of hydrogen isotopes used in fission-fusion based thermonuclear weapons. It also does not require fissile materials and is therefore much easier to produce when compared to more conventional nuclear weapons.
The grenade generates a small nuclear yield due to the lack of a critical mass of fissile fuel, but here lies one of the grenades key advantages. Unlike most nuclear weapons the TFG produces far less fallout thus reducing collateral damage and doesn’t condemn a large swath of land with radiative decay.
Between the sheer force produced by these weapons and the number of neutrons shot forth, no armored, or in this case unarmored, target stands much of a chance.
Often carried by the veteran explosive’s experts, the TFG has proven invaluable in eliminating key enemy fortifications, positions, and heavily armored infantry and combat vehicles.
Lightning Attack – Repeo Oppreserous Bender Class Weapon
A favorite spell among Benders and also among the first they learn. The Lightning Bolt serves as an excellent crowd control and crowd clearing tool. Known as Repeo Oppreserous, the Lightning Bolt is characterized by its unique greenish-blue hue that arcs in a manner not natural to wild lightning.
The attack is capable of being used with precision to single out an individual target or it can be unleashed to deal less damage to several enemies within range. The attack itself is said to travel along the skin of the target forming a cage like structure before coursing through the body. As a beginner spell all Benders have access to it, even those among the Adra, making it a common sight in battles involving Benders from either side. Given the severity and ease of the spell, humanity has begun developing armor that can redirect the attack back to the Bender but such armor is still in the concept phase.
While the spell is easy to cast, those that do not control themselves run the risk of the energy consuming them in a violent fashion.
Spell Block – Pestoris Consiasi Bender Class Weapon
The spell itself appears as a pure yellow-ish lattice with symbols like that of crop circles rumored to happen during the pre-invasion era infused with earthen energies.
Pestoris Consiasi, better known as the Counter Spell is an effective defensive tool in any Benders arsenal. As the common name suggests the spell serves to nullify any spell directed at the caster.
The caster can also summon a shield to protect nearby allies. The spell itself appears as a pure copper lattice with symbols like that of crop circles rumored to happen during the pre-invasion era infused with earthen energies.
Though given the inherent power of the spell it is quite costly for the Bender to cast, and it takes quite some time for them to be able to use it again. Though fortunately reports indicate that the Adra are incapable of replicating this spell, the reason as to why remains unclear
Clone – Incremium Ratio Bender Class Weapon
Known as Incremium Ratio, the Clone spell duplicates the caster and summons an identical clone. This clone attacks with the caster to effectively double the caster’s offensive capabilities.
Laser Cannon – Vehicle & Spaceship Class Weapon
As humanity began to develop its first combat- oriented spaceships, much consideration was given to the weapons and armaments they would be equipped with. It was obvious that contemporary and kinetic weapons that relied on bullets would be ineffective in space combat given the vastness of space the shielding and armor the Adra used could easily ward them off. So, the first weapons to be specifically designed for combat ships are the Mark I Laser Cannon(s).
Like infantry laser weapons, the Mark I’s work by exciting high-energy gas through apower cell which converts the gas into a concentrated plasma. The plasma is then
channeled into a coherent energy bolt by various collimating components and is held
together temporarily by magnetic forces. Given the larger size and more complex design, the cannons are capable of firing more condensed and devastating bolts of energy adding both to their effective range and punch.
These cannons are designed to fire in two modes: the first is a lower damage, higher rate of fire and the second, is a slower fire mode that allows the weapon to charge to deal increased damage.
The cannons can be placed on fixed locations for single direction firing or fitted to a ball-mounted swivel, allowing for omni-directional firing. Given their laser-based nature they are extremely accurate and deal low damage to shields but once shields have been broken or disrupted, they can shred through hull armor with 500 terra watts of condensed energy.
These weapons are standard issue for all spacecraft and serve as a solid foundation for both defensive and offensive maneuvers.
Rail Gun Spaceship Class Weapon
As space weapons advanced humanity needed to improve its kinetic capabilities to quickly deal with Adra ship shields. Initial iterations of kinetic weapons could deal with shields but lacked range and velocity making it difficult to engage from safe distances. That was until plans for pre-invasion rail guns were discovered in an abandoned R&D facility.
Engineers jumped on the schematics and began to construct and adapt the rudimentary plans into something worthy of NTC spacecraft.
After several years of development, the first real iteration of the Railgun was put into production and use. The railgun functions as a linear motor device that relies on electromagnetic force to launch a projectile at high velocities.
The projectile itself is not explosive in nature and is typically a tungsten slug. The weapon relies on speed, mass, and overall kinetic energy to inflict its damage.
As the name suggests the system relies on a pair of parallel rail conductors, along which a round is accelerated by the electromagnetic effects of a current that runs along one rail, into the round, and then back across the other rail.
The biggest drawback to the weapon is its limited maneuverability in terms of aiming. It is primarily limited to one direction but allows for some adjustments in degrees.
Several modifications were made in order to use rail guns on the anti-gravity tanks too.
Plasma Cannon Spaceship Class Weapon
The pinnacle of non-explosive space weaponry, the Plasma Cannon is the result of years of dedicated research and risky excursions into Adra territory to acquire schematics and components.
Much like a laser weapon, the plasma cannon works by energizing gasses to create the energy bolt, however, the plasma cannon improves upon this to a much deadlier degree. It is also capable of forming these bolts at a faster rate equating to roughly 2,000 plasma bolts per second and uses roughly 3000 terra watts doing so.
The plasma cannon is an expensive weapon to create and as such it is only reserved for the largest and/or most experienced vessels that way their lethality is used to its maximum effect. It is also omni-directional and given the sheer quantity of bolts it fires; accuracy is not an issue.
The plasma cannon excels in combating both shields and armor, making it the most effective tool in humanity’s arsenal against Adra fleets and ships.
Thermonuclear Detonator Rocket
The apex in human space weaponry, the TDR (Thermonuclear Detonator Rocket) is a second-generation nuclear weapon design. This iteration builds upon the fundamentals of atomic weaponry used prior to the arrival of the Adra all be it in a much more compact, devastating, and refined package.
Characteristics of nuclear fusion reactions make possible the use of non-
fissile depleted uranium as the weapon’s main fuel, thus allowing more efficient use of
scarce fissile material such as uranium-235 and plutonium-239.
A fusion explosion begins with the detonation of the fission primary stage. Its temperature soars past 100 million kelvin. Then the secondary fusion stage commences – which consists of the outer pusher/tamper, fusion fuel filler, and a central plutonium spark plug. The fission products of this chain reaction heat the highly compressed, and extremely dense,
thermonuclear fuel surrounding the spark plug to around 300 million kelvins, igniting
fusion reactions between fusion fuel nuclei.
The TDRs are also equipped with a prototype shield disruption field that allows the rocket to bypass shielding, allowing for the payload to be delivered directly to a target’s hull, though little is left after such an impact.
Given the cost of such devices, these weapons are typically reserved for Destroyers and Battleships. When they are used, they are primarily relied upon to destroy enemy battleships or to destroy/disable groups of lower- class warships.
Valkyrie Tachyon Rocket Weapon
One of the most recent human weapon designs, the N-90 Tachyon Particle Rocket Weapon, also known as the “Valkyrie”, is effective in disabling enemy weapons.
Designed by Sung S. W., the Valkyrie launches a precise, radar concealed rocket that seeks out and targets spaceship weapons to cripple and disable them.
It is extremely accurate, and its stealth capabilities allow it to reach its target undetected by most radars. Additionally, its speed makes it very difficult to hit even with rapid fire weapons.
Tachyon Weapons are very powerful devices that ultimately fire bursts of tachyons faster then the speed of light. The Tachyon weapons use emitters to help spread the contact and use capacitors to generator the heat needed to destroy anything it targets.
It is rumored that Steve Jacobs’ weapons team is working on two new tachyon weapons, one is a Tachyon rifle that can shoot right through a vehicle. The second is much more lethal, a Superweapon array that can destroy whole cities or Battleships.
